Magic Mike's Last Dance: Mike will finally have a relationship within this HBO Max sequel
In a roundtable discussion featuring Steven Soderbergh and Zoe Kravitz regarding their forthcoming film KIMI the director discussed the anticipated third installment in the Magic Mike story, titled Magic Mike's Last Dance. Magic Mike's Last Dance review was also adamant about encouraging Channing Tatum to keep telling the story, which is in part in part, inspired by Tatum's previous work as a stripper from Tampa, Florida.
Soderbergh directed Magic Mike, which was released in 2012. The film was a huge success with critics and audiences, who not only praised the sex appeal and dance sequences but also the direction, script, and the performances. Tatum starred alongside Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, and Matthew McConaughey. Bomer and Manganiello were also back along with Tatum in the 2015 sequel Magic Mike XXL, this time directed by Gregory Jacobs, who was the first assistant director for the first film. The sequel was also a great success, both financially and critically.
In the days when Magic Mike was still just one of many concepts, Soderbergh remembers pointing to Magic Mike as the one project Tatum should be focusing on. He said that when Tatum pitched his idea at the filming of Haywire the idea immediately attracted his interest. Later, when the story was complete, Soderbergh was eager to join in to make the concept an actual reality.
With a third film in the works, which was that was announced in November, titled Magic Mike's Last Dance, Soderbergh gave us a little hint of what's to come in the finale. He explained that while he knew his Magic Mike concept would be successful, he did not think that Tatum was looking to expand the world of the film into a larger realm, one dealing with relationships, masculinity and respect, which expanded in the second movie.

"The third film is sort of the culmination of everything we've been discussing in that area. Magic Mike's Last Dance movie 's not just about taking the dance to another stage, but also engaging in the relationship aspect that's been an undercurrent in all the movies. Mike has a relationship that's at the center of this movie, while the rest happens. This is the first time we've done it."
While Last Dance could very well be the last dance of Mike Lane Soderbergh's return in the franchise is an exciting development. Following the XXL sequel We've made it to the top, but there's more to be revealed about Mike's journey.
